ABOUT MYSELF
Hello, my name is Oron and I began making my hand-crafted soaps at Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap in 2012, back then it was called Scent of Oron
Academically, my professional training is in Language Editing and I hold a Master's Degree in Hebrew from Tel-Aviv University. Following the call of my heart, I delved into other lines of work and at different points in my life I found myself working in a number of trades: assembling and wiring electrical panels for an electronics manufacturer, waitressing in a restaurant, being a rehabilitation counselor in hostels for adults with Special Needs, arranging houses, working in a soap and perfume factory, and guarding at a high-tech company
A large part of my life has been dedicated to singing in choirs, and I have taken voice lessons, learned the art of Flamenco dancing and practiced Yoga. I have also studied Kabbalah and NLP. During that time, I have also studied for certification as an Aromatherapy Practitioner at the Merav Institute for Alternative Medicine (Open University)
Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap was established following an experience which at the time, seemed to me to be entirely negative. I was living in a basement apartment and during the winter months the walls became covered with layers of damp and mildew. The odor of mildew was awful! The walls were stained with mold and slimy slugs began to crawl across the soggy areas of the walls. The stench of damp and mold filled the apartment and was unbearable. It seemed that the landlord wasn't going to lose any sleep over the issue of the damp in the walls and I had to put up with it until my rental contract expired. In the meantime, I was constantly searching for solutions to the problem of the heavy odor which had become a dark and smelly cloud hanging over my daily life. I tried air fresheners, deodorizers, incense (natural and synthetic), trays of baking soda, which is known to be an effective absorbent of odors…still nothing seemed to do the trick. At about the same time I happened to be using natural soaps which contained essential oils and this led me to try to use essential oils to get rid of the pungent smell of the mildew. As a temporary solution, I bought some essential oils and a burner and they turned out to be the most effective solution to the problem and I used the essential oils for the rest of the time I lived in that awful damp basement apartment. As time passed, I began to learn more about the many benefits of essential oils. Initially, I bought a book on aromatherapy and afterwards I enrolled in an aromatherapy course. Very quickly I became "addicted" to the subject, just as the aromatherapy instructor had assured me would happen. That was the beginning of Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap

Q: ?What's the difference between "natural" products and genuinely natural products
A: Many products are called "natural", but their label indicates they contain ingredients that are not actually considered natural, such as: petroleum by-products, preservatives, steroids, aluminum, inorganic alcohol and artificial colors and fragrances. Similarly, some ingredients are natural raw materials that have undergone a chemical process in a laboratory which has altered their molecular structure
Genuinely natural products contain only authentic natural ingredients as liquid oils or solid vegetable fats and butters, or with pure essential oils. Be aware that there are also synthetic essential oils which have been manufactured in factory laboratories. There are also imitation essential oils and even diluted essential oils Therefore, it is very important to know where to purchase genuine pure oils. A product label which lists 'perfume' or 'fragrance' indicates that the scents are synthetic in contrast to a label which reads: 'Pure Essential Oil'. Hence, it is advisable to thoroughly read a product's label in order to find out whether it contains natural essential oils or artificial fragrance extracts
Genuine natural soap does contain one significant inorganic ingredient, sodium hydroxide (which some of it I replace with potassium hydroxide), an alkali salt compound, which makes up less than 10% of the soap formula. More importantly, sodium hydroxide breaks down completely with the aid of fatty acids found in natural oils and soaps thus becoming harmless and safe to use
Q: ?Why is it important to use all-natural soaps and other all-natural products
A: Our skin is the body's largest organ; it lives, breathes, absorbs and expels. When our skin absorbs substances that are not natural, our body has difficulty identifying them. As a result, the body does not know how to effectively discharge those unnatural elements and instead accumulates them into the fatty tissue and the blood system. Prolonged use of artificial and synthetic materials can cause skin irritations, allergic reactions, and long-term toxicity. Some experts claim that synthetic and artificial substances may be carcinogenic
Using genuinely natural products has a number of advantages
A) Being aware of the materials that nourish our bodies – When we use authentically natural products we can be sure what we are nourishing our skin with, especially if we formulate them ourselves. No more of those endless unreadable labels written in the manufacturer's "secret code"
B) Therapy for the body and mind – As we mentioned earlier, genuine natural products contain botanical oils (liquid and solid). These oils consist of fatty acids vital for nourishing, repairing and protecting our skin. The addition of pure and natural aromatic oil aids in nurturing and replenishing our skin and soothing the soul, while the aromatic oils are absorbed through the skin directly into the bloodstream
C) Caring for the environment – Ecology – When we shower, bathe and wash the dishes, the synthetic materials in processed soaps and detergents are drained out as wastewater to local sewer treatment ponds and from there back into the soil and the ground water system. As a result of this cycle, those same synthetic ingredients find their way back into our bodies via grey-water irrigated agricultural crops and even our drinking water. Therefore, it is recommended to use only genuinely natural soap products so as not to pollute our water system and to ensure our future good health. Not surprisingly, the simplicity of the ingredients found in authentically natural soap products effectively conserves precious energy resources and raw materials
Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap Soaps
Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap all-natural solid soap bars are made with botanical cold-press oils and aromatically enhanced with the addition of pure essential oils and are manufactured by hand
Our soaps are formulated and aged using the traditional method of the Cold Process which preserves and protects the natural oils' unique properties and qualities
Our natural soaps are intended for facial cleansing and bathing the body and are remarkably gentle, nourishing and rejuvenating for the skin. Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap natural soaps do not contain any preservative substances, synthetic materials or petroleum by-products of any kind
The ingredients for Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap bar soaps are as follows
These are the basic ingredients found in most of our natural soap formulas
A) Natural botanical cold-press oils (Olive, coconut, castor, shea butter) – containing vital fatty acids which benefit the skin
B) Distilled water – using to mix the lye in it
C) NaOH, sodium hydroxide (replacing wood ash used in the past), also known as lye and caustic soda – a caustic base and an alkali salt compound decomposing the fatty acids of the oils and turning them into soap. This is the material that solidifies and emulsifies the natural oils and which biologically breaks down after the preparation and aging process of the soap is completed (about 30 days after the manufacture of the soap) and then becomes harmless and safe to use
D) KOH, Potassium Hydroxide, also known as lye and caustic potash – an alkali salt compound which is used in producing liquid soap. I replace some of the NaOH in it to improve the lathering property of the soap
E) Pure essential oils – containing chemicals from plant sources (!) which have medicinal properties and special scents
There are a variety of ingredients which enrich each of our soaps with their own distinctive properties
A) Pure essential oils: Grapefruit, benzoin, geranium, lavender, may chang (litsea cubeba), mint, lemon grass, patchouli, cinnamon and more
B) Supplemental materials: Clays, activated chacoal, herbal peelings
Scent of Oron – The Giving Soap soaps are not only pure and natural, healthy and gentle to the skin, high quality and hand-crafted, they also have an artistic charm and a unique esthetic. We also create soaps with a delightfully traditional country-style simplicity
Our soaps are available in individual bars, in large "blocks" or charmingly gift-wrapped to express the warmth and affection, joy and happiness in the giving of a gift
